Acrostic for Lent

Lent is upon us. It’s typically a time of self-denial. But it’s also an opportunity to encounter faith afresh, for example through a Lent course, a retreat or – for the really brave – a pilgrimage. So let’s not beat ourselves up because we’ve snaffled a forbidden bar of chocolate – I’m sure the devil loves it when that happens. Instead, let’s be positive about Lent.

Let’s not go around with long Lenten faces –
Engage positively with pilgrims these forty shared days.
No negatives, no sackcloth, just Spirit-filled places –
Tell the Tempter you’re tired of his mean, joyless ways.
